Monica Rizzo was born on the great plains of South Dakota, attended college in Iowa, and earned a M.S.Ed from Dominican University of California. She began her career in education teaching high school to adult inmates in the San Francisco County Jail. Ms. Rizzo has well over ten years experience as a middle and high school humanities teacher. She earned credentials in English and social studies both in California and Washington DC.
Ms. Rizzo was selected as a Fulbright-Hays honoree in 2018 and completed her program in India. She is also a graduate of the Teachers Institute at Colonial Williamsburg. Ms. Rizzo has traveled to five continents, 33 countries, and 45 of the United States. She uses her travels to delve into the history and culture of the places she visits and infuses her lessons with what she learns. Her travels have included visits to Calcutta, the Taj Mahal, former Soviet Block countries, Monte Carlo, Fiji, and Machu Picchu.
Ms. Rizzo spends her free time hiking, kayaking, and sewing. Most of all she enjoys spending time with her four adult daughters and her infant granddaughter.
